Sixpence Lands Coveted Commercial Spot
Sixpence None The Richer's smash hit single "Kiss Me" has been picked
by the Japanese electronics giant NEC to appear in a new commercial for the
company's latest product, the Simplem computer. The commercial which hit the
airwaves in late February and will run for three months.
"We
all knew that this would be the perfect song for this ad." commented MJM
Entertainment Group's Mark Joseph who helped to negotiate the deal. "NEC
is one of the leading companies that is introducing the Japanese people to the
wonders of the Internet, and 'Kiss Me' is the song that has captured the hearts
of young Japanese so it was a perfect fit. Japan doesn't have a huge movie industry
so all the creative would-be Spielberg types go into commercial making so they
take their commercials a lot more seriously than we do. This was a great move
for both NEC and Sixpence."
In Japan, where far fewer people listen to the radio than their counterparts
in the US, TV commercials become one of the main vehicles that drive hit songs
and all parties involved are hoping that this latest development will continue
to drive sales of the album which have already reached 82,000 units.
"The ad has a young, fresh, hip feel to it which made it important to have
the right soundtrack for it," said Ric Rodeheaver of MJM.
